A TRIP TO THE PAST

On New Years Day 1960, I moved into the house below. I was
10-years-old.

The first photo is the "Weidners" house - which has long since been renovated and they have long since moved away. MacKenzie is approaching the corner and turning to go down to the third house on the right which is where I lived.

We lived in Charter Oak area of Covina. I still remember my address - and have all these years - 966 North Greer.. I use to remember my phone number but that has long past. I can't even remember the first three numbers. Maybe my sister can.

I would also like to take Holly and Hannah (and Chloe) here some day and if the grandsons want to see it I'll take them. I think it's fun to get a photo of my grandchildren in front of the house I grew up in. My first house is too far away, which was in Kansas where I lived until 10.

I pointed out where my dad had planted some trees and Mac is pointing to one of them asking me if that is one of them.

My dad had added on the front overhead patio cover after I had moved out and a few years before they moved to the River in Parker, Arizona.

Mac's biking on up the street where my friend Tina lived, (we were both in love with Paul McCartney and would spend many hours in her bedroom looking at posters and daydreaming of the day one of us would marry him). On this street, my sister and I would play baseball with the boys who lived here also, and they would always choose her for their team and leave me all alone and sad because I was horrible at sports back then. We also played out later every night in the summer, way past dark playing hide and go seek with the other kids on the block.

MacKenzie had wanted to bring her bike so I figured even though it had to be over 100, we could fit in about 10 to 15 minutes of bikeriding while I walked along. I figured it would look less conspicuous if I was taking a picture of her in front of the house than just walking along and someone saw me scoping out the area.

Later I'll post photos of the creek I use to bike to where we went yesterday, her at the Village Toy Store and then getting a milkshake at the Village Grill.

That was our gramma/granddaughter day out and hopefully we might do this every once in awhile. I had fun and I think she did too.

966-7745? That's the number that immediately came to me as I read what you wrote, and now back to view the photos.

Sometimes when I get a whiff of orange blossoms, I still can conjure up when we moved there. There was an orange grove there and there were many orange trees left in all the yards when they put in the houses. I really enjoyed these pictures!

Fifth photo up of Kenzie...all I can say is that is Seth as a girl.

Also, I love how big the trees are in the neighborhood now.

It looks like you had a nice big yard to play on. Isn't it funny how times have changed so much. Just the fact that kids could be outside unsupervised all day and night just doesn't happen anymore...that I know of. That is nice that you can go back there and have some memories with the grandchildren.

Hi Brenda - i like that we live only about a half hour away by freeway. I go there every so many years to check on the neighborhood and see changes.
